MCO is an area-based, banded crop insurance plan that protects producers against an unexpected decrease in their operating margin. The operating margin is defined as the expected area revenue minus the expected area operating costs. MCO is area-based coverage and may not necessarily reflect a producer’s individual experience.
MCO provides coverage over the following bands:
- 95% to 86%
- 90% to 86%
- 95% to 90% (when combined with STAX coverage at 90%)
This simplified, banded approach means that MCO does not have premium credits or indemnity offsets.
MCO is offered as an endorsement and must be purchased in conjunction with one of the following underlying policies:
- Yield Protection (Insurance Plan Code 01, not CAT coverage)
- Revenue Protection (Insurance Plan Code 02)
- Revenue Protection-Harvest Price Exclusion (Insurance Plan Code 03)

This webpage allows users to view preliminary estimates of area-based margins and premium rates. A price discovery tool is included which shows the projected and harvest prices for MCO crops and inputs. The prices, margin estimates and premium rates per acre shown on this webpage are for estimating purposes. Official crop prices, margins and premium rates will be published by RMA in the AIB once projected prices are discovered. Harvest price estimates will be shown during crops and inputs harvest price discovery periods.
MCO will first be available starting in reinsurance year 2026. Earlier years may be shown for informational purposes as if the program had been offered in that past reinsurance year. Because this site relies on past RMA data, counties listed in the MCO website .pdf files may not be listed in the tool due to data limitations.
Please refer to the “Price Discovery” portion of the tool for updates as projected and harvest prices are discovered:
- The price discovery period for MCO corn, cotton, grain sorghum, soybeans and spring wheat begins August 15th.
- The first price discovery period for MCO rice begins December 15th.
